I'm bored of my current phone (SE W760i) and i'm looking for something a little more exciting.

I think i would like to try out the Android platform but not entirely sure...

The phones that have my interest are;

Sony Ericsson Aino - free on a contract and looks pretty sweet, no idea if the phone is any good though.

Sony Ericsson Satio - I would probably have to pay a little something towards this phone- maybe £100. Is it worth paying for over the Anio?

Sony Ericsson W995 - I know that this is a solid (can't really go worng with) phone. But it's very similar to the phone i have now. Would be free.

HTC HD2 - Looks amazing, but it's a windows mobile device. Not sure if thats for me. Would probably cost me £50

Now the Android phones.

Samsung Galaxy i7500 - I've heard that there are a few problems with this phone. Would cost me around £50.

HTC Hero - This phone is getting on a bit now, i hear that the harware is a bit dated? Can be had for free.

Samsung Galaxy Portal i5700 - The i7500's little brother. But can we trust Samsung with Android? I have yet to see a full review for this phone. Would be free.

LG InTouch Max GW620 - A new budget Android phone from LG. The one review i read was mixed. I do like the look of this device though. Free.

My phone uses aren't all that extravagant. The primary use would be calling (with decent clarity) and texting, so the physical or touch screen keyboard would have to be decent. I think i would prefer a physical keyboard, unless the touch screen was top notch.

I use the internet a fair bit, checking news, facebook, sport etc. I quite fancy using spotify on my new phone but i'm not sure if spotify is supported on the SE devices? Android is obviously supported.

Battery life is fairly important, i need my phone to last a day at least with normal usage.

The other thing is i've never payed for a contract phone. And i really don't fancy doing it. I could possibly break my rule if it was really worth it.

So, what do you guys think? :)

A free Hero? Go for it :p

Seriously though HTC should be releasing tons more phones soon, depends on how urgent it is...

Not hugely urgent. But i've been reading about HTC releasing new phones for months and months now, and nothing...

You can hold out forever waiting for 'the next' phone.

Ideally i wan't a free, Android 2.0 phone, doesn't have to be top of the range. Is there anything like that on the horizon?

Do you think the Samsung Galaxy Portal i5700 and LG InTouch Max GW620 would match the Hero? Being newer phones and all.

And as for blackberry, i tried one out in the shop and the keys were too small for my big hands. So thats a no unfortunately.

The i5700 is a budget version of the i7500, which was a complete failure. They might have fixed the problems with it, but even then it won't have the great UI that HTC put on. The LG is... well, it's LG isn't it? The Hero is the best on that list by miles to be honest.

Ok, so is Android not worth it without HTC's fancy touch flow business?

The problem i have with the hero is that it's pretty ugly, and from what i've read, the hardware was dated on first release. So if it was dated way back then, i'd be investing in a really out dated Android phone for the next 18 months.

Any other suggestions?

N900 - Free on some contracts, bit different but very powerful and a great mobile computing device. Open source so lots of community behind it and there are daily software releases and updates. Add in a full browser, full internet capabilities and the prospect of Flash 10 coming soon, it really is a top device.

Oh sure, it's great. But until you've used it both at stock and on the Hero you won't understand what a huge difference HTC's Sense interface makes. The hardware isn't dated, it's perfectly acceptable for a top end phone this generation. And yeah, Snapdragon might make it faster but it's not really noticeable. After all - it's a phone. And don't not buy it just because you think it's ugly... look at the Tattoo if it's that much of a big deal.
