Hello,

My PC just randomly shut down, after rebooting its slow to boot. When it finally gets to desktop, none of the startup programs launch with it? It seems taskbar itself has failed. I tried to restart windows explorer.exe but no luck.

Eventually after about 5 minutes everything launched and sorted itself.

Any ideas on what this could be?

Cheers

This sounds like a software issue. I'd first try 'resetting' windows. This doesn't come without cost/risk as you would have to reinstall all your applications and (depending on how you do the reset and how it goes) you may lose data.

It could be hardware. Simple things to test are a bootable memtest USB created on another PC, running Prime95 in windows to stress test, benchmarking using something like userbenchmark (despite their poor reputation as Intel shills their benchmark software is quick to run and can easily and quickly identify possible issues).
