Looking for most of a pc for my brother, he doesnt need OS, monitor, keyboard, mouse and I have an old 8800 GTS 512 that he can use until a later date, hoping one of you guys can spec the rest aiming to get the most out of the budget as possible which would be around £400, maybe a little more if its worth the investment.

Cheers guys

Thanks cat, thats something similar to what i came up with, the real decision was are the phenom's good enough compared to an i5, still not sure!

^ Also i dont think u read the thread as an i7 costs half the budget lol

Alright, to go with the phenom ones or try to get an i5 into the budget.

If you have some 800MHZ or 1066MHZ DDR2 RAM lying about the Phenom II can also use this if you get an AM2+ motherboard.

Looking at this review the Core i5 750 is around 20% faster than a Phenom II X4 955BE:

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2009/09/07/intel_lynnfield_core_i5_i7_processors/5

However the Core i5 750 is £160 on OcUK and the Phenom II X4 955BE is £122 on OcUK which is over 30% more expensive excluding any difference in motherboard prices:

It is going to be almost 100% for games and maybe the odd HD movie, maybe i could get away with getting a dual core, what are the i3's like?

Many thanks CAT :), ive come up with a draft of what i might get, this is everything without a gfx card:

I think for around £450 this is as good as i can get, appreciate any suggestions!

It seems you added a few more expensive components like the PSU,the case and the hard drive!!

Apart from that it looks fine!! :D

You maybe able to unlock the processor to a quad core(not a 100% success rate). The same goes with the Phenom II X2 processors.

Yea i thought about some of the stuff like getting a 20-30 pound case, theres not much point and it will just be annoying in the long run.

If thats the best for the price, then ill prob order it quite soon, thanks for your help again cat.
