Some info on Ivy Bridge

I saw a press release that said Q4 of 2010, then another that said Q3 of 2011 and now they are saying Q4 of 2011. So I reckon they will actually be released just in time for the end of the world. :P
Naa, I can't imagine them releasing them much after Q4 of 2011, they need the christmas market boost get them all in the rich kids homes for christmas and then release the next stepping models about 2months after :D If it's anything like the LGA1155 cpu's though it won't be much fun to OC :(

a nice wee power boost indeed! Will they just continue to increase channels to get more power out of RAM though? Seems quite annoying that we have to keep upgrading our boards, cpu and ram everytime they bring out a new CPU. 775,1156,1366,1155 and 2011. every model will be on a different platform soon enough.

Sounds good. I just hope that the mobos are stupidly expensive as per X58. Paying more than £150 for a mobo is just outrageous IMO.

Don't mind paying > £150 providing it's justified (with superb components or tech). As it's the interface between all the parts it's probably the most crucial component of a PC, maybe after the CPU

I realise what a motherboard is. My point is that the prices from 775 -> X58 mobo went up massively, pushing overall upgrade prices much higher. This is frustrating for those of us who are not made of money because every new CPU family requires a new motherboard.

as impressive as sb-e looks i think you're gonna be paying premium for a 6 core, quad memory setup, il stick to my planned ivy bridge upgrade, that's triple channel isn't it?

Hmm that's a good point. I remember being able to get good MBs for less than £100 and now you need £100+ for a good one.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying £140 for a mobo (that was the price of my UD4) however some of the X58 prices are stupid. Take the top of the line X58 mobo - it's £435.98. I have heard of people paying £900 for a CPU but almost £450 for a mobo. Are we, as consumers really that thick?
