I have a good bit of cash together now to build my ultimate gaming rig but i need some input first. I had planned on going with a 24" monitor but am now wondering if there are any merits to using 42" HDTV's. I have more money that i'd expected to have at this time and the TV is getting bought regardless. What i'm now wondering is what kind of a system am i looking at to run games on the TV and look as good as they possibly can. I'll have £1700 left over ish for the the PC box. So some advice would be much appreciated here. If this can be done on less that £1700 then please advise kind of spec i'd need as having some change would be nice ;)

If this is an unrealistic idea then please say so, i've just always fancied this kind of set up.... huge TV on the wall... PC desk in the middle of the room and the surround system pumping out of the speakers on the wall while in the middle of gaming :D Now i have the cash and the spare room to seriously think about doing it.

Edit - I love getting my paws into overclocking so bang per bucks where applicable :)

depends on what screen, i have a sammy 40" lcd which is limited to 1366x768, while its nice for video and all, i find when working with text especially, there are 2 lines visible down the middle of the viewing area which i cant get rid of. sort of like video tearing but on the windows desktop and i cant get rid of :/

on the other hand i love my 2407wfp's 1920x1200 res to bits :)

if you already have a keyboard mouse and speakers, you could easily get a very good system for £1000=£1200, let alone £1700, especially if you fancy overclocking.

I am currently using a budget 32 inch lcd @ 720p for a screen and find it works very well. If i had your kind of budget I wold look at getting one of the 42 inch 1080p lcd's which can be had for around £1200 which seems like a bargain when thats almost what I payed for my 32 inch just over a year ago.

However I would see if you could try it out with a vga or dvi feed to see how well it would work before handing over the money. I would have though most good AV shops would not mind if you took maybe a laptop along and had a play around ( and then order it online much cheaper :p )

£1,657.34 total. Awsome performance and storage, near silent, as future-proofed as you're gonna get, and will also overclock to hell.

Edit - swap mobo for http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-209-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=205 and we're just shy of £1700.

I use my 32" samsung hdtv and it works fine. Not sure about 40" but the 32" was sweet on 2142 when I put it on my main rig for 2 nights lol .

If you are going to get a HDTV the Samsung 1080p (F71 Series) has 2 HDMI ports.

PC Resolution can go up to 1920x1080 :D

If you shop around you can get it for around £1200 plus get 5% back if you go through a certain site (Not being able to mention other sites sucks ass man :( ).

I wish I had waited cause I paid the same price for my Samsung LE40R74 :(
