I'm in Ireland at the minute. I was out with my mates tonight and was walking home from the bar about an hour ago by myself. I walked past this guy who was wearing no top (bare chested) who said to me:

"Here mate, where could I get a bottle of wine (Buckfast) now?"
"I've no idea mate, I'm just out of the bar now and everywhere is shut"
"Go get me a bottle of wine will you?"
"Sorry I can't help you, it's 3 in the morning and everywhere is shut"
"Look, come with me to get a bottle of wine, and give me the money for it".

At this point I gave out a hesitant laugh and said "Good luck" as I walked on. He followed after me and pulled a knife on me:

"Give me the money now or I'll stick this ******* knife in your throat."
"Whoah calm down, I just want to go home, I've no money here"
"GIVE ME THE ******* MONEY NOW OR I'LL SLIT YOUR ******* THROAT"
"Look all I've got is 4 quid, take it, that's all I've got"

At this point he lunged at me with the knife. I managed to grab it by the blade with my hand (it's a bit cut up). I took the knife off him and lunged back. When he backed off I threw the knife as hard as I could to the other side of the road. He then tried to punch me. For those of you that have met me you'll know I'm quite stocky and well built. His punch connected with my shoulder and I fought back with all my strength. I hit him with every ounce of power I had. I connected with his head and face a few time and managed to punch him in the ear twice. When he fell to the ground stunned I ran home as fast as I could. I didn't look back, I just ran.

So here I am absolutely knackered after running over a mile. I recognise the guy who tried to stab me, he's well known to the local paramilitaries for drug dealing and whatnot and has even had 'the kneecaps' a few years ago but it doesn't seem to have stopped him. I'm furious that he was going to stab me in the chest, probably killing me, for the sake of £4 in change. I'm furious

Oh well, as the saying goes, **** happens. I'm just glad that I was in the position to fight back otherwise I might be lying in a bodybag right now. I dred to think what might have happened :(

Jeysus, at least you're okay dude  he doesn't know you does he?

He knew my name for some reason. I'm only here until Wednesday before I return to England to work so I'll be fine in the meantime. I just hope he gets whats coming to him, and I'm going to make sure that the right people know about it

You think your night was bad I was carrying a naked chick into the sea and I never ever got a number for my trouble :(

******* hell mate thats crazy, like you said tho it could have turned out much worse, you rang old bill up yet ?

He's well known to the peelers as well, they want nothing to do with him. They would much rather leave it up to the paramilitaries to deal with him. This country is a mess, especially as people like him get away with all sorts whilst the politicians argue about who they want to talk with.

**** me!

Bloody glad you're alright though dude! Hows your hand?

Hope you hurt that **** good!

Huge part of the reason I want to live elsewhere when I get into my mid 20s.

Even though I don't know you, glad to hear you're alright. The government would rather draw up a list of where to put speed cameras to collect their cash, as opposed to sorting out real issues (and people) like this.

That's ****ing nasty Scuzi, thank christ you kept a cool head and got a couple of smacks in. :)

Wow, thank god you're alright, you could've turned into a statistic in the fight against knife crime :(
Well played for getting the knife out of the equation, how badly cut up is the hand?

Good form old chap!

Should have left a note on him "I'm Scuzi, don't you know"

Joking aside at least you got the build and strength to fight back, I am an antelope I would have ran.

Least all your bits and pieces are still in place.

Glad you are ok. Bit of a shock on the stroll home from a night out i bet.
Watch your back till you leave mate. ;)

Well done for putting him down & not getting yourself cut up too bad, hopefully thats where it will end as well if the bloke knew your name etc.. You say the police didn't want to know, did you tell them or it is common knowledge that they don't want to know this fella? If you told them, then that's absolutely pathetic if they weren't interested. I'm a bit surprised though too that what is attempted murder would just be brushed under the carpet.
Hope the scumbag gets whats coming to him.

You didn't capitalize. A swift punt to his face shoulda done the trick.

Reminds me of Northern Ireland with the Army during the 70s. Then again, if some **** pulled a knife on me then, I'd full him full of lead, reload, and fill him in again.

Anyway, I'm glad you're OK. That could have turned bad. Stay aware, stay frosty.
