Some mechanical help please celica front shock

Hi guys

Please bear with me as im not a mechanic

Have a problem with the front driverside spring. Car is lower on that side. This seems to have started when the car was jacked up to change the wheels as I was changing wheels to winter tyres.

I noticed it as the car goes to the right under heavy breaking. So I jacked it up and took the wheel off the other night to have a look, Spring seems intact but on the top of the spring is a plate and it will move if i poke it when the other side shock it is solid. So is this a broken spring or just the plate that holds the spring on has loosened?

Any advice would be great

Cant say for sure on that model. but sometimes when jacked up springs could turn and would not seat properly, its possible this is your issue

Im assuming that means it will need removed and then put back on? Or can you get the spring reseated without removing the shock?

You used to jack it back up, then you could literally twist the spring round back into place (you just need to take the loading off it)

I am talking some years ago here, it could be that risk has been designed out by now

Thanks very much will have a look tonight see if it will move. If not ill get a spring compressor at the weekend to take the load off and move it

Why wouldn’t you just get this looked at?

It can’t cost much to get someone to stick it up on a hoist and have a quick looksee.

Called into local mechanic and he cant take it for 2 weeks. I use my car for work so will have a look this weekend and If i cant sort it will have to wait until mechanic has time.

And hope you don’t have to brake too hard in the meantime?

Hopefully the brake pull you mentioned is very minor.
