I'm currently rocking a p4 3.0 northwood sitting @ 3.3 (or thereabouts) on stock air cooling. Never had any problems with it but i've not pushed it any further... Untill now, muhaha.
Tbh i'm a bit of a noob as far as overclocking goes. But i'm looking for a bit more poke, and it's either overclocking and decent cooling, or upgrading (which would mean a new mobo for pci support, and a new cpu/gfx card), and i'm trying to leave the leap for at least another 6 months if possible.
So basically, with decent water cooling can i expect to see much more of a gain (video/photo editing and compy gaming)?.
My system specs are:
p4 3.0 @ 3.3.
p4p800-e deluxe (currently using the overclocking presets on this).
1 gig corsair xms bh5
A-open 6800 GT (AGP, reference cooler and not overclocked).
Decent PSU (cant remember make off the top of my head).
Obviously it's hard to give a definitive answer to that question. But really i'd like to see 3.7ghz+ from of my p4 and a decent reduction in noise. And if i went with the GPU cooling too a decent overclock on the 6800.
Secondly i'm wondering what kind of price decent water-cooling kits start at. I've seen them on that auction site from 75 quid upwards, but i can't imagine that being a good system.
No idea if they are useale, but my old man has a garden/aquatics place and they sells fish tank/garden pool pumps etc. I could probably blag one or at least get it cheap (if they are useable in PC watercooling?).
Any wise words appreciated, Ben.
