Currently got an A10-5800K and a Radeon R9 280X in my system. Opportunity has befallen me to acquire an Phenom 965BE for free. All I need is a motherboard. If I was to get an AM3+ motherboard, will the 965BE work in that socket (I believe it will from my research).

Also, what motherboard should I get, if I have a budget of around £100 for the motherboard and heatsink?

The 965 is a bit of a stop gap until I could acquire a 8350 in the next few months at some point, but it provides me with the motherboard to be able to use the 8350 if I do this path of changes.

Also any idea if the next generation of AMD cpu's will be AM3+?

Thanks for any help guys :) Much appreciated.

My old motherboard and cpu will be put into another case along with the rest of the components I have spare and sold so there is a bit of a profit for me to make here, so it is not just change for the sake of change. I do believe the 965BE will perform better in a lot of tasks than the 5800k too.

AMD have announced socket AM3+ support through to Q1 2015, although the future looks bleak. There are no big core refreshes planned so it's Piledriver for the next 12 months at least. AMD seem to be so focused on the APU market right now that little innovation is going to happen with their desktop line-up - certainly for the next 12 months at least.

All that said free is still free and you'll still get a fair amount of use out of an AM3 setup so go for it in my opinion.

Either of the motherboards below will be fine and offer good value for money. I tend to prefer Gigabyte stuff purely for the UK RMA should anything go wrong. Both will overclock well and have sufficient VRM cooling on-board to support the Piledriver range. The cooler is also good value and gets very good reviews. I've got one myself in one of my builds and for the money you really can't go wrong.
