I'm trying to fix my cousins PC, they are all young so mess around quite abit. One of them decided to pull the plug out while the PC was on and since then it refuses to start up.

Anyhow, I've sorted that bit by simply resetting the CMOS, I can now access the bios BUT any settings I save, when I restart it will not start up. I am forced to reset the CMOS and then it takes me to the bios again, but any slight change in the bios and it will not start. Anyone have any ideas whats wrong?

I can confirm that the problem is not the ram, i tried one stick at a time and in different slots, I tried a different gfx card, I unplugged the dvd drive, hdd and soundcard, but its the same problem. The problem therefore has to be with either the cpu, motherboard or PSU, I think?

Spec:

500W PSU
AMD Sempron 2800
Abit KD7-G
1GB (2x512) Geil 3200
64MB GF4 Ti4200
200GB Maxtor IDE
NEC 3500 DVD-RW
etc

Any help much appreciated!

Sounds PSU related to me. What make is that PSU ? Have you another to try ?

Tbh its a cheapo PSU, and before I rush off to buy another motherboard (which I thought was the problem) I just wanted to check in here. I don't have another PSU at hand to test out, I will have to ask afew mates to see if they have a spare one.

I'm suprised its the PSU though, it all fires up ok and lets me get to the bios but thats as far as it goes?

Ok i'v just gone and taken apart my bro's pc :p , he has the same 500W PSU in there but its definately working 100%.

I connected that PSU up and the exact same thing happens. The PC fires up, goes to bios, I make any change and restart... and then it will not start. I reset CMOS and it starts up again and takes me to bios. It cannot be the PSU now can it? I think the motherboard must be faulty.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Should I look into buying a replacement motherboard or could it be something i'm doing wrong?

Maybe its the CPU then as bios is all saved on the motherboard is it ? " not sure" try and get a cheapo off MM to try maybe?
Some one corret me if i am wrong thou.
