so im sat at some lights this morning after taking my girlfriend to work when a guy in an slk pulls up next to me, he revs his engine so i look accross and see him and a mate wanting to race me. now, im in a fiesta 1.25.

so i rev back, looks like 'its on'.

the lights change and he takes off with a lot of noise and wheel spin, then i immediately turn left. felt good making him look like a **** :)

do people think their cool because their faster than a crappy fiesta?

I had someone try it on with me at the lights in an SLK once. He lost, but it was probably the slowest model (the 200).

I think I'm cool because my car was faster than a crappy Mercedes. :p :D

But yes, I used to get this a lot in my 1.4 Astra that was slower than continental drift. People thought they were big for pwning the slowest car on the road.

i think you have a very vivid imagination :)

Strangely I never get this in the Honda ;) Had it once or twice in the MX-5 but usually a couple of chavvy types in small hatchbacks that I managed to pwn. It's hot hatches that I have difficulty with :D

there are not many on the roads my car can beat :p i just pretend to race sometimes and then let them shoot off

Sounds like it to me too.

It's probably more like the guy in the Merc just wanted to get away quickly and not get stuck behind a Fiesta 1.25. I do it all the time, pull up at the light or a roundabout, let the 4wd and V6 do its thing and I'm away, no fuss but admittedly a bit of noise (unavoidable really)

Sounds about right, some people really do think it's amazing that their sports cars can out do a Fiesta...I'd worry if it couldn't.

Reminds me of a year or so ago when I was driving through some 30 limit village in a 1.2 clio and an SLK was right up my bum whilst I was sat dead on 30. The road changed to NSL and into a dualcarige way, I dropped from 3rd to 2nd, put my foot down and the SLK didn't seem to know what happened. :p

When the Top Gear FN2 vs EP3 was aired I had everyone trying to have a go off the lights on my daily commute. Mainly older suited and booted men in German machinery.

not a lot happened ? ;)

I sped off up the road and the SLK carried on at 30ish as the SLK wasn't expecting the clio driver to know what they were doing behind the wheel. Obviously it then caught up with me...but I was turning off...it would have caught up anyway...or I'd hope so considering the clio was naff and the SLK is meant to be good. :p

I drive pretty steady in my little Golf, because I know it's not quick so why bother. However, I was sat at 33mph coming out of my local town and the 50 section isn't till the long straight. This Nissan truck was sat right on my back bumper at night with his lights blinding me for a good minute, in which we went through a speed camera where he barely slowed and also a police car went past on the other side.

He is still on my bumper, so I dropped it subtly into 2nd in the 50 section where I floored it and left him well behind. He didn't sit on my bumper after that and I was satisfied with my moment of immaturity :D I wouldn't have minded if I was going slow or something?

Must admit one of my favourite games is to keep to exactly 30 right up to the NSL sign then floor it strait to 60 .

This is especially fun when the car behind was speeding thou the 30 and sitting right on your bumper trying to make you break the speed limit, it does leave a :D on my face after i make a gap of 3-400 meters on them.

I do often end up 's when the same car come screaming up behind me again in the next 30 zone.

Snap! Not so much now I drive as boring as possible so that I don't crash before I upgrade my car, but when I do get it I will be doing the same thing!

The most annoying thing is then getting stuck behind some numpty doing 40 in a 60 on the way into my town......then when it turns to the 30 limit (for a very good reason), they carry on doing 40  THIS is the most annoying thing you can experience on the roads surely.

Most of these idiots tend to do 40mph almost everywhere, tailgating in residential areas if they come behind a car adhering to the speed limit, and then causing a big tailback when they reach an NSL limit. They also can get quite excited when you overtake them, and a smile and a friendly wave in response to their fist shaking and light flashing seems to make them even angrier for some reason.

Heh, we both pretty much posted the same comment dogbreath... they are indeed muppets. I overtook a muppet doing 40 in a 60 a few weeks back, he eventually caught up at the lights and gave me hand gestures.... I just laughed back and gave him a polite wave. I am entitled to overtake incompetent drivers so not really bothered as long as they get out of my way.
