Cheers for the comments.
In the first image I used the cluttered foreground and background to play with the focal plane and experiment rather than really thinking of composition - but I can see what you all mean!
The second shot was taken with me twisted around in the car seat whilst waiting to pick pheebs up from work. It was the only "unblurred" shot out of several :p . Wish I had read up on exposure compensation and "blown" images before I went now though.

I really enjoyed the couple of days I had snapping away and already I am thinking I need a tripod and remote/cable shutter release in order to get evening landscapes. Unfortunatly I'm now totally broke and house hunting so I cant see those comming for a while yet! ;)

Have a look through the manual (what camera is it ?) and read up on the white balance stuff . The first one is very 'yellow' due to the lighting , you can fix it afterwards but it's best to do it in camera .

Wow thats incredible! At the time, white balance was set to auto I think. Its a canon 350D. The manual makes for a great read :D
