Well, after 1 RMA I've finally got a working motherboard and I'm sitting in BIOS happy, with a nice low CPU temperature.

Now, BIOS's have moved on since I were a lad (aren't they flashy these days) but there's a few things I'm confused about...

Now, BIOS's have moved on since I were a lad (aren't they flashy these days) but there's a few things I'm confused about: -

1. CPU frequency is 3293.6MHz on my i3 3220 - assuming this is right, but the memory is showing as 1330MHz when it's 1600MHz memory. This is 'auto', so I'm assuming that's to match CPU or something? Or is there a multiplier that needs changing? Ages since I did this and I can't remember what should match what...

2. BIOS is F14, and there is an F18 on the website for the motherboard. Upgrade as standard?

3. Installing onto an SSD - do I need any drivers for Windows 7 ahead of time or will everything install ok and then just update/install motherboard drivers as required using latest version from website?

4. In terms of drivers, motherboard website lists: -5

* VIA Audio Driver
* Intel Management Engine Interface
* Intel INF Installation
* Atheros LAN driver
* Intel Rapid Storage Technology
* Intel SATA Preinstall Driver
* Etron USB 3.0 Driver
* Intel USB 3.0 Driver
* Intel VGA Driver

Ok, I would do Audio, LAN anyway, but I don't need VGA as I'm not going to use onboard graphics, but why 2 USB 3.0 drivers, and do I need them? And what about the other 4 intel drivers???

5. HD audio or AC97 connector - which should I use? Does it matter?

6. My Zalman case has a temperature sensor. Where is sensible to put this, and do you just tape it down case side, PSU or something similar..?

7. Anything else I should tweak or adjust in BIOS or case for optimum performance. Not aiming to overlock, just want it cool and stable.

I appreciate there's a lot of questions, and some of these may be very noobish but it's an age since I last build!

Thanks in advance.

1) either load the XMP profile if the RAM has it or swap the ratio from 13.33 to 16X (all done in the BIOS memory section)

2) Yeah, use Qflash via a USB stick.

3) Dont need anything ahead, even AHCI should be set for the SATA as default setting. remove the sata cable for other HDD's to stop windows installer putting files in the wrong place.

5) use the HD audio connector.
