Hi guys,
I know this forum is very well educated when it comes to Motors and when I try and google these things, they link to the useful marque specific sites but the information is sometimes practically useless. So, I'm hoping you chaps maybe able to assist, without saying, LMGTFY
Anyhoo, due to my location and place of work, I don't drive that often which in turn because I seldom use my car, naturally my knowledge of said car is relatively poor. For many years I've had a Mondeo ST24 (99T reg) which soon requires a full service (it's sitting on 119000 miles now).
I wondered if you chaps could help identify a few issues in the meantime before I am able to book it in and have everything sorted.
Economy wise, it's shocking, I can imagine it's probably due to the age/mileage/lack of service lately, but it returns around 250 miles on a full tank. I suppose that's not too bad for a V6 of this age, but still, I don't floor it every where. Would that be a sign initially of requiring a full service?
This leads onto quite nicely a juddering problem I sometimes have. When giving it some beans, at around 5k+ revs, the car sometimes feels like it is hesitating. It will continue to pull but for split seconds almost lose power. I wasn't sure if this was a fuelling issue or maybe a problem with the spark plugs/leads? Naturally I was intending to get this sorted with the service but wanted to know for my own benefit why this would be acting up. The revs don't continue to rise, and I've tried the usual methods to ensure it's not the clutch giving up or whatever?
Finally, just a question of curiosity, but what determines the rate which the engine revs fall / return to idle? I've identified the car is in need of a service and just wondered if this would result in resolving this because compared to a lot of my other cars, if I rev the car in neutral it can take a few seconds for the revs to fall from 5k to idle. It's nice and smooth but relatively slow. Not an issue per se, just interested.
Apologies for the elementary questions and rambling - any tips from St24 owners on things I can do myself to tidy up the running of the engine would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike.
