1. How much is the 6970 expected to cost on release ?
2. I currently have a 5870...would I benefit for gaming more replacing the 5870 with one 6970 or by having two 5870s in Crossfire ?

1. According to Gibbo around £350-£400 on release.
2. Xfire for the 5xxx series is not as optimised as for the 6xxx series but in any case I would expect performance to be around the same or possibly a bit better for the 6970. Xfiring also causes other issues (such as heat, microshuttering, yadada.... :))

Absolutely no concrete answers available - however I'd be happy to wildly speculate :D

1) Considering the cost of the 5870 at UK launch (~£300) then it would logical that they may be around here. However, the price of these cards did climb up shortly after release (to around £340 if memory serves) due to lack of competition and currency factors - so the competition will have a large effect on the price.

If the 6970 can match the performance of the GTX 580 (currently priced around £400 for the base models) then I can see the 6970 costing £350-400, at least initially. But if it falls short then the £300-350 range is more likely.

2) Since you can get a 5870 today for £180 then this is by far the best upgrade option for you - even the GTX 580 can't touch 5870CF in most games.
