Some quick Acronis questions...

Hi,

I have downloaded the trial of Acronis TrueImage with the plan to buy a copy when the trial is over. I have imaged the HDD, and so far everything seems great. I do have a few small questions if people wouldn't mind helping out.

1. I have noticed Acronis runs loads (well, 4 :p) of background processes on vista x64. Is it necessary for these processes to run all the time, or could they be disabled and started only when i run Acronis? At this stage, i am not planning on scheduled tasks, so i get the feeling the background processes are somewhat redundant...?

2. It seems to take ages to start up, and displays the 'processing' screen for a long time. There are only two disks in the system at the moment - one 'main' disk divided into a data and boot partition, and another disk for other operating systems (Linux etc). Is this normal?

3. Thought i'd ask whilst im here - are there any better alternatives than acronis for HDD imaging? I have had a look at the O&O disk imager, and like the interface, but have not tried using the software. Quite a few OCuKers seem to recommed acronis, but i thought i would double check before shelling out £35!

Cheers, any help/advice is appreciated.

Thanks guys - looks like i will go for this. I've played around with it and it seems pretty good. Doesnt look like much else scores so well in online reviews, although they are few and far between.

2. Normal. It needs to carefully work out what you have got , deal with it.

I think it may have been down to some virtual machines reading from the disk at the same time Acronis was trying to gain access. I cant think of anything else - both disks are relatively new (certainly less than a year old). Having started the program several times since, it seems to be a one off. Its not really a problem, but it down make you wonder when it takes about a minute to start th program. As you say, i'll have to deal with it! :p
