Hi,

Putting together a shopping list for an 'under the telly' gaming PC in a Siverstone Grandia GD04 HTPC case.

The main components are

i5-4690K (TDP=85W)
GTX960 (TDP=120W)

Other than that there is the MoBo, possibly a DVD drive and an SDD

I was planning on playing it safe and putting a 600W PSU in there - or should I go with something smaller.

Of the 600W PSUs I'm looking at a Corsair and a Seasonic

Of those two which if any is the best.

Also should I be going for something smaller (a 500 or even a 400).

Many thanks,

Nigel

Seasonic > Corsair.

You can get away with less power such as 500'ish as the 960 sips very little power.

So you would say the Seasonic - is that because they are better PSUs or because it is fully modular whereas the Corsair is semi-modular.

Also is there any benefit in going down to a 500W.

Cheers,

Nigel

The Corsair has flat cables (apart from the main motherboard cable).

Is that good or just a gimmick?

Would going for a 500W be a better option.

Are there any alternatives up to the £60ish mark that you would rate above the two I have listed.

Cheers,

Nigel

Neither, the Corsair has poor quality internals and the Seasonic is noisey. Take a look at the EVGA Supernova GS650 which is on offer at the moment. It's a gold rated fully modular Seasonic built unit and has a 5 year warranty. Be quick though as it comes off this week only later this morning.

There is a review here.

That Superflower has no modular cables at all.
