Hi there, im just setting up a new build and like to know what you guys thing is the best HDD setup

I have 3 sata drives, 2 in raid, 1 standalone all 80Gb

I want to have system stuff on one drive and games and a small amount of extra storage on another.

Which is going to benefit from the Raid the most, the OS or the games files?

New setup includes, Vista Prem 64bit, AMD X2 6000+, 2Gb RAM, 2900XT

Thanks

Also consider which data is more important to you- your OS or the things you are putting on the storage drive. If 1 of the 2 disks in the raid fails, you will lose everything on both drives.

good point but all important data will be backed-up on the other drive so that isnt really an issue.

I was just wondering which setup would show the most improvement overall

what about a RAID 0+1? that way if a drive fails you still have your data backed up

So if he gets another 80GB Drive and sets them up in RAID0+1 he will effectively only have 160GB of storage, if thats enough, then i dont see a problem doing that. Its a good idea and that but in reality is that really needed for a home user?

I suggest setup a RAID0 Config and then use the other drive for your backup , everything will be backed up on that single drive anyway as you said.

But if the Array fails, would you mind installing the O.S and all your programs again, if not RAID0 will be nice. :D
