I have just bought 4gb 5400/667. Am i fine to just switch off the pc plug in the the two sticks along with my 2gb 6400/800 stick and restart the pc and go from there?
I think that the 800 will auto go to 667? But do i have to do anything in the bios first?
And also what test can i run on the memory to check its all ok (bought off MM).
Thanks guys

Download Mem-test, this can create a bootable ISO to enable you to test the memory.

Are you overclocked at all.

RJC, I did have my pc overclocked for a while but i dont think it is now. How can i check exactly? go into BIOS or?
and with that memtest can i not to it whilst in windows as i wont be able to get any discs until tomorrow :(

Are you using a Intel system then it may be Speedstep.

What does the multiplier show?

Hopefully your not overcloked you should be able to pop the ram in, but I would drop the current ram to the same speed.

I suspect like you mention thats cool n quiet, and probably not overcloked.

Reboot into the BIOS and drop your memory speed of your current down to the same as the new ram, save and reboot. Shutdown and install the new ram, hopefully you should boot without problem.

If it does fail then I would do a CMOS reset.
