So I got a new tv Sony Bravia 1080p full HD. Anyway I put the PS3 on with the HDMI cable and like on the system settings it is set to 1080P, why is it grand theft auto 4 boots into 720p mode? no idea how to change it into 1080p.

Another question is sometimes it goes dark and sometimes its lighter, like the PS3 menu will be dark sometimes and other times when I boot the console it's quite bright.

Probly just noob questions but help is appreciate. Cheers.

Possibly, can you turn it off?

you should try reading the instructions lol. yes you can turn them off, if they are even on by default. i cant remember. if dynamic contrast is on, turn that off too.

anyway, gta4 is a 720p game. it can run at 1080p, but its a waste of time. if you really want to, you have to disable 720p output on the ps3's video settings menu.

How you mean a waste of time?

Lol, ok i'll have a look. And cheers.

because it doesnt really look any different lol. actually on my lcd, it looks worse at 1080p, as a few other games on my ps3 do. its really not worth the bother but thats how you do it if you want to give it a go lol

It's always running at 1080p on a 1080p screen, just a case of which device does the scaling. If the PS3 runs it at 720p that means the TV is scaling it to 1080p. You could try and disable 720p in the display settings of the PS3 which would force the PS3 to output it at 1080p. Might look better or worse depending on how good your TV is at scaling.

which is exactly what i said up there ^^^ but the point was the game doesnt run at 720p unless you force it to.

Wha? You said it's a waste of time to 'run' it at 1080p, which I assume you mean the PS3 scaling it to 1080p, but that's not necessarily the case, because the PS3 might be better at scaling it to 1080p than his TV, so it might be beneficial to him and therefore not a waste of time.

he has a sony - it wont be. gtaIV along with other games, such as ratchet and clank, look softer at 1080p than they are at 720p the scaling the ps3 applies for games is worlds apart from what it can do with dvds.
