Headed down to the seafront on monday at about 7ish (bludy freezing!!!) to try out some early morning shots. Was hoping to get a nice bit of sunrise but was far too cloudy. Still, i was still happy with what i came back with. Here are some of my favs, all taken with my tamron 17-50, which so far has been fantastic.

1. Quick bash at some hdr to bring out the clouds.

Hehe! Just spotted this thread!

I like the black and white ones! They look a lot like the same style as the guys who won the Contrast Round, his name has lost me!

#1 and #2 do nothing for me I'm afraid. #3 and #4 are better.

I think they work better in B+W but unfortunately I don't find the subject matter all that interesting. It's just not the most picturesque sea-side I've ever seen :p

All so, I don't think the navigation marker in #1 is interesting enough to make it the focal point of the picture...

Just my 2p

You start off looking at the top if the pic then scroll down towards the photographer's feet and it really feels like your head is slumping over, not my think I'm afraid :) But if I had to choose a set I'd go for the black and whites. I'll have a look at your site as well, I'm sure you could find a lot of subject matter in Japan

same.

#2 my eyes keep looking down at the stones, I'm trying hard to look up at the horizon. very interesting :)

Thanks for the comments guys. Yea i agree it isnt the most interesting subject matter in the world, it was damn cloudy that morning so a sunrise was out of the question. Most of them i tried to keep the sky out because it was just so damn grey and boring so i had to find other ways to make do.
Thanks again,

Andy

It increases contrast basically. Using a yellow filter makes black and white photos just seem more right. If humans saw in black and white, they'd see the same contrast as a yellow filter gives.
