basically, a couple of days ago, i just exited guild wars, and was selecting some music to play when a few red dots started randomly appearing on my second monitor, almost like dead pixels except moving around and then on my primary monitor red dots and lines started appearing as well like especially around anything i opened like it if opened a box when i close it it would be outlined in red dots, then they go away come back randomly. the full screen also sometimes goes crazy with different lines and colours, this can be fixed with turn monitor off and on again, but then red dots etc are still happening.

then my pc froze, monitors turned off, then a couple seconds later came back on with a message from catalyst control centre saying VPU recover kicked in cos my gfx stopped responding.

but the red dots and dashes wer still randomly going around, then pc crashed completely. when rebooted it sayed recovered from a serious error "thread stuck in device driver"

atitool dusnt let me see if there is any artifacts or anything like that, crashes when opened. first time i tried got black screen, second time jus got a crash and a mess.

i have literally tried everything under the sun to fix it and i have no idea what to do :(

i have tried:
complete removal of drivers and everything, then booting in safe mode using driver cleaner pro and ccleaner to get rid of everything, then rebooted and installed jus the driver with no catalyst centre. didnt work.

turned hardware acceleration down to zero and unchecked write combining as directed by windows error. didnt work.

complete reformat of hard drive and starting from scratch. didnt work.

installed new BIOS. didnt work

temperatures are fine so wouldnt appear to be overheating. gpu is 40 idle mem is 55 idle. cpu is around 40 idle

My Specs: [nothing is overclocked]
Asus A8R32MVP-Deluxe
AMD x2 4800+ with arctic cooling freezer 64 pro cooler on
Corsair 2gb twinx (2x 1gb)
ATi X1900XT 512mb with accelero s1 cooler on
Seasonic S12 energy+ 550W psu
X-Fi fatal1ty soundcard
western digital caviar SE16 2500KS 250gb hdd
nzxt hush case

if any1 has any idea at all other than replace gfx card i would be forever grateful

and i imagine changing the cooler on it has voided any sort of warranty??

could the memory breakage be caused my thermal epoxy? cos when i installed the accelero cooler on it, which was only about 2 weeks ago the memory heatsinks did not stick at all with the two sided tape provided so i used this on it.http://overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=OA-001-AC

and i suppose my third question should now be what gfx card would you recommend? preferrably will fit straight into my system, can have an accelor cooler fitted to it and is under 200 quid :( i loved my x1900xt, had it for 1.5yrs and it ran everything i ever asked on full settings without any problems.

A point to consider here is if You permanently fix a heatsink to something You better make sure its not fixed to anything else because as it heat cycles it will try to break something due to expansion and contraction

You may be able to get some more life out of the card by reducing the memory speed or if Your up to it, softening the timings ( You will need a bios editor for that)

I just took a look at that cooler and it looked like indvidual ram sinks in which case that was fine, maybe You did not have enough cooling air across them and it's cooked one of the chips

Well what we do know is that card worked fine for 2 weeks short of 1.5 years with the std cooler then lasted 2 weeks with this passive cooler !
If I was calling the shots my plans would not involve that cooler on Your setup

and put my accelero cooler on but with new ram sinks, are these any good??:

Surely you have learned from this recent carnage!

Why not just buy a slightly more expensive card (GTS)and let it be.

You seem obsessed that you must fit this cooler to the replacement card.

These cards are techinical things and anyone who starts messing with heatsinks etc when not covered by RMA are just a bit nuts!

Have you tried memory underclock?

I second that.I had very similar corruption with my X1950 pro - underclocked the memory by 20mhz in ATI tray tools and it disappeared.

I used to get that all the time with my X800Pro when ATI Overdrive was enabled. Switched it off and booted fine every time and no problems.

Switch overdrive back on, back it comes.
