Some sites working and some not....

Right this is a bit of a weird problem! Some sites will load up fine and others will start to load then stop but keep trying to load really slowly but they never get past half way no matter how long I wait.

I use Firefox but the problem is the same in Google Chrome, I use O2 for internet connectivity and first I thought it was a problem with them but then I tried to load the sites on my parents laptop and they work lightning quick! :/

So I am presuming it's a problem with my computer although no idea what, all was working fine up until a few weeks ago as far as I can remember.

what does it say in the bottom left of the loading bar at the point it gets stuck?

It flicks every now and then between "connecting to.....", "transferring data from..." and "waiting for...."

ok sounds like DNS is working but it's not connecting. The looping seems to indicate that it's retrying the connection but not dropping it.
unfortunately FF doesn't say in anymore detail what it's actually doing when it reports "waiting for..." etc. IF possible I'd recommend installing wireshark and doing a packet capture while loading one of the broken sites. This should allow you to determine the operation of all the encapsulation layers individually.
