Some SLI questions

New to the forums so please be gentle with me

I have a Hiper HPU-4M670 Type R 670W PSU - I assume there isn't enough juice there to run an 8800GTX SLI arrangement in a rig with 3 HD's and a DVD drive?

Just out of curiosity can an ultra be paired with a GTX in SLI? Presumably it'd be a waste of time if it could as the GTX would slow down the ultra? Would it run the faster or the same speed as two GTXs? (again assuming that it's possible)

Not sure about the PSU. There are many on these forums who would tell you to steer clear of the Hiper models as they have a rather "inconsistant" failure rate. Mine has been going for a good year and a half now without any problems, although it's been unused for the last month or so.

I don't know if the higher wattage Hipers are as "dodgy" though.

As for the SLi, I believe the cards will both run at the same clocks. If you put an Ultra with a GTX, you will get GTX SLi speeds. The only time you can't mix different cards is if the cores differ, however I believe the GTX and Ultra both use the same core, with the difference being the clock speeds.

I dont think it would work, just like you cant SLI a 7900GTO with a GTX.

Maybe it would work if you flashed the BIOS on one of the cards

Well the reason I was wondering was that someone was recently flogging 14 Ultras on a well known auction site and they ended up going for £345.

I used to run SLI 7800gtx & had problems with some games not using SLI.
If I had the money I'd get SLI 8800 though
2x7800gtx used more power than 1x8800gtx on my system, I would try SLI with your current PSU though I'm a risk taker..
