Hey all,

Having trouble with my PC still, there seem's be to something on my pc that is blocking me using the internet, sometimes my browser will show my homepage but after that nothing happens.

I have ran many spyware and anti-virus scans but nothing has seemed to work, I know my boardband is fine because I can play on xbox live and telewest have checked my connection and everything seem's fine.

Anyone know what may be causing this or what can be done?

BTW
I can't even update my antivirus or spyware programs so even if it is a new ware or virus I cant get the new update. This sucks

They usually infect System Restore point, so basically you don't use that. Sometimes after you do everything it still comes back ..if so fresh install time.

Seem's I will have to format then, only thing is I have never done it in my life, I'm sure its quite easy, but just incase is there any guides on-line at all? :)

Plus I will need to buy xp home because my system did'nt come with one.

1. check you havent specified a proxy server in the internet connection options
Code:
(control panel - internet options - connections - lan settings - "untick use a proxy server")

2. if your connected directly to the router/modem and you should be using DHCP to get your IP address automatically, make sure you havent specified a static ip address/dns servers
Code:
(control panel - network connections - right click on your network interface - properties - internet protocol - properties)

3. open a command prompt and type the following
ping www.google.com
if you get the request timed out or no dns address found try
ping 66.249.93.104

4. At the same command prompt, type ipconfig and try and copy what it says and post back.

Formatting and installing Windows is easy enough. There are step by step instructions and options guiding you through the whole process. :)

Boot off the CD, and select install Windows from the list of options, delete your C: partition, tell the installer to install on the unpartitioned space. It'll do it's job, then restart, and you simply have to navigate through a few wizards (location chooser, etc).

If you don't have your drivers on a CD, you might want to copy them to a flash drive or CD so you can access the internet and stuff after installing. I kinda ran into trouble with that the first time I formatted 'cause I was used to it all being installed for me by the supplier. :p
