some Steam Friends missing? New install? Firewall?

I have just installed steam, and i have only one steam friend! Some are missing! I can't re add them as it says they could not be added. Is it a firewall problem. I have a router, but i have never needed to port forward before?


Ps. I originally had games missing from my steam list, the solution was to allow steam.exe in windows firewall.

I just opened steam and there currently doing maintenance work not sure if it would cause this but may be linked, i cant do anything
