** On further reading, I may of calculated the sum wrong! I calculated 41 million using 3.5MB of data.. but obviously they wont use just 2.5MB! **
I'm in the process of writing a consulting report on the UK broadband infrastructure and the investments made so far (+future) and came across these stats.
This might be boring, but this seemed like best place to post it for the network boffins
.
**During Jan 2007 iPlayer went from around 2.5MB per hour per customer to over 3.5/4MB per customer. If we apply this to todays statistics (lets take Chrismas 09 - 41m customers) that is 140136 GB of data (136.8TB) transferred during December 2009!**
Better stat!

Just amazed at the growth of the service."I think that at the moment, just for streaming, iPlayer uses about 60Gbps of bandwidth (that's about 7.5GB downloaded every second) in an evening peak. I think about 15Gbps for downloads, and about 1.5Gbps for iPhone. So overall on a particular peak day we may hit 100Gbps (about 12.5 gigabytes per second) although typically it'll be somewhat less than that. That turns out to be up to 7PB of data transfer a month.
