My rig is getting older and older and decided to build a new one and re use some of the older parts.

  • Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor
  • Asrock Z68 extreme 4 /Asus P8Z68-V PRO Intel Z68
  • Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 6950 TOXIC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
  • Corsair Dominator GT 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-17200C9 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit with DHX Airflow Fan
  • Thermaltake Frio CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366/AM2/AM2+/AM3)

I intend to use the pc mostly for games. Spent my fair share of time lurking around and it seems the i5 seem to best buy at the moment. I intend to oc the cpu to around 4.5.

The Z68 Asus boards seems like a decent board with easy to use ocing.

I currently have an Nvidia GTX295, I decided to give ATI a go. I Also currently own a decent PSU which can handle everything.

What would you guys suggest and what do you think about the build?

go with the 1600mhz memory like the corsair or the kingston, no need for the 17200.

not seen much about the frio, could save a bit of money with the Gelid Tranquillo or spend a bit more on the Thermalright Silver Arrow.

rest looks fine.

what case are you using, take it that it will fit the gfx card without any probs.

Currently Have HAF 932 Case so space should not be a problem.

I will read up some about the Asrock Z68 extreme4. Wasn't too sure about Asrock for gaming mobos but it seems they went out and did it for this one.

What is exactly the difference in performance between the 1600 and 2000 Mhz memory. What application will note a difference?

And thanks btw :).

Over clocking today don't depend on RAM speed, while the 2000mhz is better than the 1600mhz most reviews show that the 1600 sits in the middle of your " bang to buck" ratio

Would it work if I used Gainward GTX295 as a dedicated physX card?

OR would it screw up the build having an nvidia and ati cards?

Are the Asrock Z68 extreme 4 boards available for shipping?
