Hi all,

After messing about with my current rig and getting no joy in terms of overclocking I've got the bug to upgrade. I'm after some opinions on what sort of performance increases I'll see between the below rigs and also if you think its worth it?

My current rig (Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo P):

Prescott P4 3.4Ghz 800Mhz FSB wt HT
Some rubbish Gigabyte mobo (no overclocking options)
2Gb of PC3200 RAM
500W Jeantech PSU
250Gb SATA HDD
MSI 7900GTO (oc'd to 700/800 :D )

The GFX card is a recent purchase and will be transplanted into the new rig along with an Arctic Freezer Pro 7 that I have lying around.

The new rig:
C2D E6300
Gigabyte DS3
GeIL 2Gb PC6400 Ultra
Hiper Type R 580W PSU
Seagate Barracuda 7200 250Gb
MSI 7900GTO
Arctic Freezer Pro 7
Akasa Zen case

I'd also be interested in your thoughts on the spec of the new rig. I will be wanting to overclock in case you hadn't already guessed ;)

The machine is going to be used mainly for gaming and CAD/Design work (Pro Eng, 3D Studio Max, Photoshop etc) and my budget for the remaining bits is no more than £600.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers

maybe swap the hiper PSU to a more reliable brand, (tagan/enermax/seasonic) iv'e had a faulty one and although theres people on here who would recommend them, theres probably just as many people who will tell you not to touch them with a barge pole. Might cost you 20-30 quid extra for a more reliable one, but i think its worth it considering the cost of all the parts a dodgy psu could potentially kill

Cheers mate

I've heard that Tagan are supposed to be good!

Of the two below which one would be better?

Tagan TG500-U25 500W ATX2.0 Dual Engine Silent SLi Compliant Silent PSU (CA-012-TG)

or

Tagan TG580-U15 580W ATX2.01 Easycon SLi Compliant Modular Silent PSU (CA-009-TG)

Also do you have any opinion on the performance increase I'd see going from my current rig to the new one?
