Hi all,

I currently have a watercooled loop with a 7970 in my system but on a 1440p 27" it struggles a little bit in games like BF4 etc and I haven't attempted to play FC4 or AC-U.

I'm likely to upgrade my monitor to the Dell 34" Curved screen (if the pricing is right, otherwise I'll get the flat LG 34"), so a new GFX card is required for new games right now and for these games but on a larger screen come the new year.

I don't really want to spend a huge amount but at the same time I don't want to waste money on something that won't play games all that well.

I've never had any issues with my ATI/AMD cards and I have had issues with Nvidia in the past but with the current gen cards being as power efficient as they are and many people loving them I'm happy to switch if it means getting better performance for the money.

So... will a 980 be overkill (more than I'd like to spend but might maybe stretch for it) or is a 970 just not enough for 1440p (21:9) in which case only option is to get a 980?

Any advice would be be helpful plus with deals on this weekend I'd like to make a quick but informed decision :)

Thanks

edit: WIth my current setup I'd obviously have to take out the GPU waterblock, not an issue but if the Nvidia cards are fine on air then I guess I wouldn't need to buy a waterblock for them.

also I'd sell the 7970 on with waterblock so could recoup a little bit of money towards the new card fund.
