My current Gaming PC is 6 years old.

i5-3570
Gigabyte GA-Z77-DEH Mobo
corsair cml8gx3m2a1600c9 2x4gb
Decent Noctua Cooler
650w PSU

Replaced the PSU after it died 18 months ago, and the new one has just died (a superflower) and taken my Gigabyte 7950 graphics card with it (which im really annoyed about, never had a card last 6 years before).

So i need a new graphics card, the pc was due an update but im wondering what is cost effective I dont want to spend a lot for tiny increases in performance.

My current thinking is to get an RX580 graphics card (as that seems to be the best power/price combo atm?)

But what im wondering is what to do about the ram/mobo/processor. I was considering doubling the RAM to 16gb or even adding 16gb ( can you mix ram stick sizes 8gb and 4gb?) and leaving the mobo and processor for now if this is cost effective. Or the other option is to replace all three.

PC Is for gaming im just wondering how much more time i can get out of the current mobo/cpu before it really starts to hurt performance.

Oh and that graphics card is ok on my current motherboard i assume?

GPUs will be fine :)

What's your budget and what's your current monitor Res/Hz rate ?

16GB and your good to go , slap in second hand i7 if needs be AFTER 8 core i 9*** series launches as again, prices will drop

Oh well budget for me is always as much as necessary as little as possible. My monitor is terrible atm im getting a new one however soon. Probably around the £300 for a monitor I havent really started looking at monitors yet so happy to listen to recommendations havent bought one for years and years so clueless. I do game but also do a lot of work research on same pc so main things im looking for in a monitor is a reliable brand and lessening eye strain and no freaky bases that hold dust. Im not sure really what size, at a guess around 28" im not sure any bigger would be comfortable veiwing

Ok so on reading up, theres freesync and g-sync which is dependant on graphics card..sigh monitors used to be so simple.

I tend to quote 144hz freesync or no sync monitors with gtx 1060/rx580 because they are £150-200 compared to g-sync £400 lowest priced option, and its a lower tier card so it all keeps the cost down, if its a larger some then try to match card to monitor sync for high hz or , 60hz to 1440p if cant stretch the budget but you know the card card drive over 60fps at high settings fine for a while

IF PSU is in warranty... claim against it taking out your GPU ! worth a try !
