Hi all,
I know, another "which graphics card should I buy" thread but I'm getting more and more confused with the best upgrade path to take.
I have :

i5 750 at 2.67ghz
asrock p55 pro
4gig corsair pc3-10700h (667 mhz)
Radeon hd 5850
500 gig harddrive
monitor 24" 1080p

I've been waiting to see how my system handles Skyrim, as this is the main bulk of my gaming at the moment and for plenty of time to come.
It is ok but with all the mods up and running, its starting to buckle under the pressure and with more mods to come, i really would like some more fps.
Batman is also a consideration and in the back of my mind, I'm thinking "hmmm...physX"
I waited to check out some 7970 benchmarks and Skyrim does not seem like much of a performance increase at my resolution.

I'm getting confused because these benchmarks are usually taken with the current i7 or i5 and not really a true reflection of the fps I would actually get.
If someone knows of any 7970 benchmarks with my kind of set-up, I'd love to check them out.

Does anyone have anyone have any advise on my best course of action?

Cheers.

Before anything else Id try Overclocking your CPU, you should see some nice gains just getting it up to around 3.5

As I say try that first, if you still feel you need to up the gfx after, then repost, include a budget too :p

I have tried but from what I can remember, I could only go so far due to my motherboard.
Oh and I don't really want to go over £350.

I thought it was overclocked at 2.67. Is that the stock speed?
Would it have reset reinstalling windows?
I'm not very tech savy, I overclocked it a couple of years ago when I first built the system but had to follow close instructions to do so.

Yeah, 2.67 is the stock speed iirc. You should just be able to go into the Bios and change something called the 'FSB'. I'd be surprised if you couldn't at least reach 3.6ghz.

I assume the cpu cooler is a decent one?

It is a good cooler. Where can I check the speed?
I ran cpu-z and assumed that was the speed the cpu was running but I think it just shows the stock speed.

In that case it's overclocked from a stock speed of 2.67 to 3.2ghz. Although this is way, way better than stock, I would still be inclined to push it further.

I can't remember the reason but I think there was some limit on the p55 pro that stopped me going higher.
Anyway, cpu aside what would be my next best upgrade option or am I just gonna bottleneck with the cpu?
