If anybody could help me I'll be very very appreciative.

I recently purchased from over clockers UK an Asus maximus ranger VII and this was to go with my CPU, which is an Intel I7 4790K socket 1150

I think this motherboard is a now discontinued item as its not listed as a separate motherboard it's only listed with the Intel cpu as a bundle and I brought it to replace a similar spec one that I'd had for a while that developed a fault

It was all up and running just fine, and then I decided that I needed some modifications LOL

I've purchased in the Black Friday deals an Inno3D 980TI Chilli but was having problems fitting in the case.

The graphics card fitted just fine, but the fan and the rad were a tight fit so I decided that the best thing to do was to remove the motherboard remove the fans and start again from scratch.

When the set up was first running I did notice that the CPU seem to be running a little hot so it was suggested that I might have put a little bit too much thermal paste on, so I decided that I would remove the heat sink and then have a look to see how much was on there.

It didn't look like that I'd overused the thermal paste, but I decided to clean the CPU and the base of the heat sink and start again.

I remove the CPU, carefully I might add, and placed it to one side on a clean lint free cloth to remove the thermal paste, and then I took away the excess thermal paste that was on the base of the heat sink. I then looked at the CPU cleaned that, and then went to place it back in the motherboard, and that's when I noticed that there were a couple of pins that looked like they were definitely out of alignment.

I got my inspection magnifying glass and had a look under that and indeed there were two or three pins that were bent out of alignment. I decided that I would try to push them very gently with a microscopic screwdriver that I have, but to no avail in fact I think I've made it worse.

My question is can anybody recommend to me a suitable replacement for this motherboard. It's quite urgent as I now have no computer at home and it's not just myself that uses it, my wife also uses it as she does accounts, so it really does need to be replaced as soon as possible.

I hadn't really thought of a budget obviously I don't want a cheap and cheerful one but I would like one that's at least as good as this one that I had, if not better.

This has definitely put me off upgrading my computer, I have been so careful in the past, and I've always taken care when changing components, always using an antistatic wrist band to make sure I don't short anything out, and always making sure that I'm working with the correct tools to do the job, I cannot tell you how @@@@ed off I am with myself :-(

I haven't tried the CPU back in the board yet as I didn't want to damage the CPU as well as the motherboard I am not sure whether any damaged could be caused but it's a huge risk to take as I don't know what the possible outcome would be :-(

Thank you for the recommendation on the replacement I was looking at the hero too

No probs, i can understand your wary about trying it.

The pro gamer board will be grand for the 4790k. With the ROG boards you pay a premium for the looks and a few overclocking features that 99% of people wont use. You will still get a decent oc out of the pro board if you desire to do so.:)
