Some Vista problems

Having a few problems:

Made a shortcut to My Documents (which is just another hard drive) on the desktop, when you click nothing happens (but if you right click and open it will work). Also does this with My Videos shortcut in vistas user documents

When i open winamp, it says it cant load a dll. but when you click ok seems to work

VLC doesnt work properly, just a white screen. Should i resort to a codec pack?

How do you turn off UAC, tried it in tools tab in msconfig, but still on
 
Don't know about the others, but regarding UAC, did you disable it then reboot straight after? I turned UAC off that way and worked fine.

I've got the same problem with VLC, white screen and sound only. I have tried the klite codec pack but that didn't help. Not sure what other codecs there are to try. Not had much time to look for an answer though.
 
VLC doesn't work on Vista x64, your gonna have to wait while they develop a compatible version. They have had some beta's so far, none of which have worked on my system
 
Tried ffdshow, WMP11 seems to be playing most files (havent tried all of them though) and media center wont play some videos despite them working in WMP11

Yeap, got that too, luckily I dont ever use MCE
