Some xbox 360 questions

The picture quality is a lot better using HDMI.
I tried component and vga on my core system and was amazed with the difference HDMI made.

Yeah right, its in your head to justify the purchase ;). Even the official xbox mag I saw with the screenies on various cables had practically no difference.

Any chance you could do us some photo's to show us this amazing difference? After all I'm sure you didnt trade in both cables with the core.

They have quite clearly stated that it is a complete lottery as to whether you'll get one of these new revisions if you buy an Elite.

this is from microsoft

The Xbox 360 Elite is based on the Zephyr motherboard, which features a HDMI port and a improved GPU heat sink. As of July 2007, Xbox 360 premium consoles are being produced with Zephyr motherboards as well.

I will try as yet i have never posted pictures on forums but will give it a try.
I do not have to justify the purchase as i did the trade in because my old 360 had been back for repair twice and it was a launch day console.
I bought an elite on special offer with bioshock for £310.
The elite cost me £140 after the trade in.

What's the reliability of the 360 like? I'm torn between the 360 and the PS3 but I really do not like the choice of games on the PS3 at all!

I've seen a large volume of complaints about the console going faulty with the 'red ring of death' after 6 months of purchase and is putting me off getting one.

What do you reckon?

How do you post photos.
I have now got two photos both of the dashboard one using vga and the other HDMI.

The PS3 in terms of reliability is supposed to be better, the 360's were just designed in the wrong way. Your covered by the 3 Year warranty for the 3RLOD and you can send it back to Microsoft for repair. Also if you decide to "Mod" your 360 you can do the X-Clamp fix which has fixed a lot of peoples 360's. I think when mine does get the 3RLOD which it probably will as it was a February console I think I will change the case and at the same time to the X-Clamp fix. Hopefully my 360 has another year at least in it :).

But I would go with the 360, I thought the same when buying mine after hearing about the 3RLOD. But if you 360 doe's get the 3RLOD with in the first year you can go to the shop you went to and they would have to swap your broken one for a new one.

If you can wait I would get the Premium with the HDMI port. Or just get the elite although some people have already reported getting the 3RLOD on the elites.

I traded in a core system with a h/drive last week for an elite.
The elite makes a lot less noise than my core system did.
The elite i got has the new benq dvd drive and that is not as noisy and you can just hear a faint humming noise from the cooling fans.
It also has the larger heat sink on the gpu.

Also seen the review in the official Xbox mag, they could hardly see any difference between component, vga or hdmi. Most websites also come to the same conclusion, an example below -

HDMI 1080p vs component 1080p/i
We're going to be totally honest here, we hardly noticed a damn difference at all. We figured the best visual test would be playing in 1080p on both HDMI and component video, and we were right. What little difference we did notice, we noticed it with that test. In a couple of darker scenes in Gears there seemed to be a little more depth to the blacks (and a bit more distance detail because of it). But to tell you how subtle it was, we didn't even notice it until we literally started flipping back and forth as fast as we could. Fast motion, spinning, action, all the rest -- it looks almost identical on both consoles.

Yep, so I really don't see the point unless you need the Hard drive space to upgrade. People could probabaly get as good results by spending the time to probably set their own picture up through VGA/component. For me to have traded in they should have put in built in wireless too.

I don't use the hard drive space but I see what Kreeeee is on about with map packs. I presume this content is only going to get bigger too.

thanks for the answers :), could you possibly tell me the exact length from side to side of the hanspree tv? As i need to make sure it will fit in my room :p

I dont have a tape measure at my place but these are the manufacturers dimensions.

Dimensions ( L x D x H ) 808 x 210 x 646 mm

well considering im going to be only getting a cheapy 27 or 32 inch tv for my room to play it on, i dont think i will really see the difference between hdmi and componment, well the PS3 uses HDMI and most 360 games on componment blow them out the water so maybe i should just go for a premium. What about if i breaks in 6-8 months, and the premiums arnt really for sale any more and its just the elite and the new hdmi premium? Would i get a new one?

Oh since on my old one when i got problems i just took it back to the shop, but on this i will probably buy online, so whats the procedure with microsoft? Do i ring them and ask for it to be replaced (like in the shop)? or will they want to just repair it?
