My friends just found a 3.0 03' XJ. It's done 80k miles. I'm going to go with him to look at it so was wondering what do we need to look out for on these, baring in mind the age and mileage?

What kind of stuff should have been done on it by 80k?

Cheers

The air suspension and corrosion are the main worries.

Make sure its got a full history and a set of matching decent tyres is a good sign.

Any ways to check the air suspension?

I haven't seen the car or ad otherwise I'd post it but I've been told it has FSH.

If the air suspension is malfunctioning you will have a message on the dash.

The car should be super smooth on all surfaces and silent, any clonks and bonks from the suspension walk away.

Do check the paint as well, these are aluminium so they corrode not rust. There was a problem with the wrong rivets used on some cars.

Make sure the gearbox is smooth too.

Oh yea and all the electrics air con, windows seats etc, see that they all work.

Good colour combo that, its about the right price.

No sat nav (which i dont see as any loss really) thats kept the price down a bit.

Sweet, cheers. Really don't like it when people ask me to go view cars because I really know very little when it comes to checking mechanical issues etc :p

Its best to take someone to swerve you away from an impulse purchase.

Check that history book properly, make sure full history is full, none missing.
