This is for my cousin who will be ordering tomorrow as his current PC has hit the dirt and doesn't work at all anymore. Basically i want to get his PC as higher spec as possible because the likelyhood of him upgrading is slim to say the least. At the moment he is only on a 19" screen and wishes to stay at this res for a few years as otherwise he knows he'll be constantly upgrading.
Would this motherboard be ok for overclocking the Q6600? Will the Q6600 work straight away or will a bios flash be needed? I don't wan't to have to do any of this preferably and nor would he, so if something is incompatible or may cause issues please say. I'm assuming the RAM will be ok for a little overclocking? (would be chuffed at 3ghz) and he luckily has a retail copy of vista so i will install 64-bit.
Graphics card isnt the best but at £160 i think its pretty good for the price and should last him a few years at 1280x1024. He isn't one for playing at max graphics or with full AA or anything, but does play some of the latest games when he gets chance. UT3, CoD and Crysis are all games he would love to play and will hopefully be playing soon enough
He also has a Hiper 580W that he bought around 2005 but for obvious reasons didnt use most of the PCI-E connections and are still in his box. Would this be ok and have all the correct apapters, or would we need to get a new PSU?
I've never had experiance with SATA DVD-RW's before but im assuming that they are just like SATA HDD's and should just plug into mobo the same? Are they better or worse?
I must say, the last system i built was around 3 years ago when the A64 3000+ came out and the 9800XT was king at the time. Is it still pretty simple and straight forward?
Thanks for all your help.
If your wondering, he wants Mobo, CPU, RAM, GPU and a case at a minimum, but ideally a HDD, DVD-RW for no more than £600. Ideally, £500 is more where he wants to be.
