Someone explain this to me please!

the judge also ordered Bashir to attend a workshop entitled ''building better relationships''

This dude is so ****ing crazy that he forces someone to drink bleach in order to KILL THEM, and he gets sent to a workshop for relationship building? Yeah like that's going to have any effect on a rampaging psychopath.

But yeah injustice happens more often than people think, it's all based on money, elite, etc. There are people out there who wouldn't hurt a fly who have been torn apart by the justice system.

"He took her into the bathroom where he grabbed a bottle of bleach and he made her drink the bleach so she would kill herself. She spat that out as she was unable to swallow it.

"Then he gave her tablets from the house and told her to take them. She did but again she was unable to swallow them," he said.

How is that not attempted murder?

Sounds about right for domestic abuse in this country.

My friend's ex is on cctv where staff where forced to lock up the tesco as he was chasing her trying to kill her and hes ourside makinf throat sliting gestures banging on doirs etc after chasing her and a friend our of the house with a knife.

Suspended sentence and about 3 extra fines for breaching the restraining order so far (one of which was on the day of his court apperance for breaching it the second time)

Whilst I will vehemently defend any woman put in this kind of situation, I must question whether we're getting the whole story.

Do you think she had the audacity to leave the house on her own and *gasp* talk to people her husband didn't know? :p

Whatever else isn't in the story, this guy should be behind bars

I love the way the BBC didn't bother to also report that he said frequently, "English **** girls' when referring to her friends. Can you imagine the uproar and protest marches if this was a white man saying similar about an asian womans friends? Double standards imo.

Some terrible calls by judges recently. Surely the stuff he has done breaks multiple laws, each which would contribute to a fairly significant sentence. Surely you cant just ignore them because...marriage

@subbytna You seem to think everything that doesn't attack everyone but white men is double standard. I dont know how anyone can read this story and think the BBC is giving the guy a good spin on it because of his race... No one can stop you from carrying around that huge chip on your shoulder mate but you'l look less foolish if you were a bit more subtle with things, whether that chip is against nationality or a media company.

I hate reading stuff like this, especially when it's around domestic abuse because like it or not there is still a stigma and somewhat of a blame culture surrounding the victims. Stories like this just make it less likely that women will come forward to report abuse, must be awful to know that she could bump into him at any time, at least with a custodial sentence she'd have the freedom to try and work through everything that has happened.

These were arguments raised by the prosecutor - doesn't actually say what the court decided as a matter of fact.

Prosecutor Roger Brown highlighted a row in April 2014.

"He took her into the bathroom where he grabbed a bottle of bleach and he made her drink the bleach so she would kill herself. She spat that out as she was unable to swallow it.

"Then he gave her tablets from the house and told her to take them. She did but again she was unable to swallow them," he said.

Another argument in December 2014 led to Bashir, who played cricket for Oldham, strangling her, hitting her with the bat and saying, "If I hit you with this bat with my full power then you would be dead", the court heard.

The article does say he admitted to assaulting his wife with a bat, which is obviously vile.
