Why don't you set it as 1600 x 1200, so you use the screen proper aspect ratio?

I am pretty sure the 260 should be able to push at the very least 60fps even at 1920x1200, I know my 4890 does on both L4D and L4D2.
You do want to try and get 60 fps though for sure, disable vertical sync and you might find that even at a higher resolution you are getting smoother gameplay, are you playing on 100% maximum settings? Try lowering AA a little, but I would say play at 1920x1200 if possible.
