Hi,

Was just sat in my car in the CO-OP car park and some big phat mercedes has reveresed into me and then drove off (even though I got out my car and shouted at him to stop)...I got his numberplate tho.

Luckily it's not creased or dented anything but there are some white scratches (black car) on the corner under the right tail light.

The thing is I was parked (with two other cars on either side) in the CO-OP loading bay which is yellowed off - everyone parks in there...

Is it worth reporting and if I do would I get a successful claim given that I wasn't in one of the designated parking bays?

True as this may be it's completely irrelevent. You can't just drive into people with impunity if they happen to be parked in the wrong place.

That's true, the guy did leave the scene of an accident. But OP still shouldn't have parked there even if "everyone does"

There is a CCTV camera stuck on the wall of the CO-OP itself with a perfect view of what happened.

Parking on hatch markings in a loading bay = minor indescretion
Smashing into somebodies car and leaving immediatly = actual crime

without evidence that can be used to identify car (and possibly driver also) it's your word against theirs.

I actually have an unopened bottle of this stuff ...

Not imagining it will do much though?

If you go to www.askmid.com and pay £4, they will tell you who he is insured with. You can then phone his insurer and submit a claim against him. Be advised though, if you go down this route, you will need either CCTV or a witness as I can pretty much guarantee he will deny it. Don't forget the claim the £4 back from his insurance company. Every little helps :)

Just rang the co-op... spoke to a guy who's only been there for a week but he was very friendly and took my name and number and said he'll ring back tomorrow when his colleagues are in. Told them the time it happened and he actually said there are three CCTV cameras so he reckons one of them will likely have captured it.

Afaik from my time working at a co-op, the footage can only be released to the police or other governing body so dont expect them to give you the footage as they will not.

You will probably have to make a claim with the police so they can review the footage but good luck with that.

When i worked at the co-op, a bloke exposed himself to some kids in full view of the cameras outside. Parents reported it to police, and they never came to the shop to view the footage.

They are legally required to let you see it and receive a copy of images if the footage contains images of you as a person. Therefore a blanket ban in showing footage to anyone but police would be unlawful.

This. You'd have to use the Data Protection Act. At the most they could be difficult.

You'd be surprised at what you can polish out, a few years ago a gate closed as I was going through it leaving some pretty nasty scratches down the side of my car. I used T-Cut scratch remover and managed to make it right even after a couple of body shops had said it needed re-spraying.
