Someone has managed to port my number from RWG to another network and tried logging into my bank account. Luckily their security measures kicked in and failed (I hope). Contacted RWG support and they were useless telling me I needed to contact the new supplier and deal with them.

New supplier has no telephone support, only online forums. I've tried signing up to a new account for support purposes but I don't get the verification code. I can only guess they're using my email as a login username but using another email address for comms.

Any suggestions other than using a cowboy outfit next time?

Contact your original network, ask for their fraud department, and tell them you've been the victim of a SIM fraud. They should be able to get your number back, as they are the ones that were hit with social engineering and ported the number because they didn't do proper checks when the scammer called in. If it was done online, they should have notified you before they let the number go. Threaten to go to the ombudsman if they still BS you.

Change all your passwords on everything that phone has access to.

Also get CIFAS protective registration done. This will give you extra protection against any fraudster opening accounts in your name. If they have your phone number and bank details, it's reasonable to assume they have all of your personal information available to them.

Having had a chance to look through my call history, I received a call midday Wednesday from an private number. I can't remember if I answered it or not. It was late Wednesday afternoon that I noticed I couldn't make/receive calls. Is this the culprit? And how is this even possible?

The subsequent calls were made using another SIM.

Anytime I've moved my number I've had multiple texts and emails to say so and that if I change my mind to get in touch.

I've chatted with Now Mobile as RWG use them as carrier(?). The SIM even has Now Mobile's logo on it. Their fraud team don't work on weekends so I'll be contacting them tomorrow.

Now were about as useful as RWG. Kept telling me I need to get a PAC to send to RWG to port my number back.

My bank's fraud department thinks either the company has suffered a data breach and a) don't know about it, or b) are trying to cover it up. Another possibility is that it's someone within RWG who has access to my details and could have stopped me getting any messages regarding the port.

So, I'm going through various accounts trying to change/delete that number. Paypal asked me to verify via authenticator app. Done. Enter code sent to your email. Done. Enter code we'll send you via SMS to the number we have on file. Erm...

Your password for you RWG account, assuming that's not been used anywhere else?

2FA on the account?

Unique password. They don't have 2FA.
Not sure how they've managed that then. Unless there was a data breach.

How don't these companies have any form of 2FA, or like others have said, SMS/Email when a port out is requested. It's crazy.

You need to push harder with RWG to get them to get the number back. It's doable.

Have you contacted the police as well? This is definitely fraud, and if your original network is being useless then maybe getting a crime reference number might help move things along.

It most likely wasn't a port but a sim swap.
I don't know if that also sends out messages - I'd imagine not since it is supposed to replace a broken/lost sim.
