as title, i have a nice spinkee 4870x2... popped it in and havent really seen that much of an improvement in WoW over the old 7900gtx. Now I aint stupid, this card should **** whatever wow throws at it, it maxes out on fps, then as i run along jerks then dips to 30-40, back up to 60.

Any ideas here?

I am running it at 1920x1200, i tried it on max everything and it runs fine but with the same problem....

Other games ie COD4 is lush, no problems there. Am i right assuming that wow is more cpu based than gfx based? My c2duo 1.66 laptop runs fine no problems. My friends new pc we built the other week runs this a dream at max everything.

I am leaning towards perhaps not enough ram as it does seems to load a fair bit after a few hours....

AMD x2 4400 @2500, 2gig crucial Ballistics, and ATI 4870x2. I am convinced the cpu just cannot through enough at the card to cope.

Thoughts please.
Cheers Deano

I'd say the cpu will be limiting it somewhat but as to whether it should be such a hinderance to fps levels i don't know as ive no experience with WoW. :(

annoying me something silly. My mates pc was the q6600 and 2gig ram and 4850. Runs fine, but he was running a lower res. Max everyting and no dipping in fps.

This with max everything gets circa 45fps, just checked it. Everything turned down max fps, but looks poo.

I feel an i7 on its way :D

you might want to star out the sweary first. Perhaps you could save up your money and change board/CPU to get the most out of the new card, and it is a very nice card!

Your grapics is worth more than your whole systeam lol

Read this Cpu scaling with a 4870x2

Another 2g of ram would be a good step but a new build is required to get the most out of your 4870x2.

BTW whats your mobo & psu?

If its sk.939 he's on then he could get quite a few ££'s for the cpu as I believe the 4400 have an extra 1mb cache?

I agree though, on a high-res you will be CPU limited quite heavily. I have a similar rig to the OP although not as fast grfx. I game at 1024 res with everything on max, never had a single problem so far.

I don't think upgrading is going to help you really as you already about the best sk.939 sytem you can get. Either a new system (CPU,motherboard, RAM) or see you can push your CPU even more.

Definitely a cpu-limitation, games like WoW don't require a huge amount of graphics power (7900GTX should be plenty at 1920x1200), and the minimum framerate will usually occur when there are loads of characters on the screen at once which stresses the CPU.

right I have a SKT 939 x2 4400+ (toledo core) A8N32-sli deluxe, crucial ballastix 2gb (ddr500) and an enermax noisetaker 620w.

Now I think i have found some answers for myself.
1) my raid 0 is only performing around 123mb/s on hd tach :S
2) due to limitations of the nvidia sli x16 chipset, if i have multi gpu in one PCi-E slot, the one gpu core will only run x8 speeds.

I am about to buy an i7 setup so all my woes will be gone

RIGHT START THE BIDDING ON THE 939 STUFF!! :D j/k

That CPU cant cope with an 4870x2, and not many can lol. Best bet is a high clocked intel core2 or an i7 like your getting :)

I think its silly AMD released a 4870x2 without any of there CPU's that can get it to work at full speed. Hopefully that little mistake will be fixed next month ;)
