Right so as Im still waiting to purchase the rest of the new PC, I have a Antec 900 and a Corsair 520.

Me, being me and bored = jump start PSU and watch the pretty fans in the case.

So I've noticed that the PSU makes this weird crackling sounds probably about 120 BPM to give you an idea of frequency. At first I believed it to be the fan so I used a screw driver to slow the fan down and it had no effect on the sound.

I'm thinking because the only thing drawing current are the case fans its a capacitor discharging over and over as nothing is drawing current. I also think its safe but would like a second opinion?

Someone know?

yup your going to die, Horribly sticking things into psu's is bad mkay

Was wearing a full size rubber suit holding a rubber handled screwdriver through oven gloves suspended by wire from the ceiling and only made contact with the inner part of the spindle where the sticker on the fan is.:)

OK no one know?

Anyone willing to disconnect their Crosair PSU from all components and jump start as an experiment to see if you can hear the crackling sound?

Or anyone know if its normal?

Capacitors dont make a cracking sound.

Cracking sounds in a high voltage device could be a dry joint arching over, if thats the case it will die soon as it burns the board away.

Do not open it, even when switched off there will be 350 volts stored on the smoothing capacitor.

If its under warranty - RMA.
