Something Afoot with Warfighter Critical Response

Does anyone else share my view that the general critics response to warfighter seems to be a calculated negative response?

Its a modern war fps, which if they have big production values and are big names always get a excellent general reception from the critics.

I'm thinking theres something underhand going on here. I've spent the last 2 hours playing warfighter online and there's nothing I can find about it that deserves such harsh reviews.

Its not a EXCELLENT game, its a decent game. A 75% or 8/10. Its solid, it doesnt excel but it delivers a fun experience that is just like any other modern war fps that gets glowing reviews.

Here are the average scores on metacritic:

Xbox - 53 out of 100
PC - 56 out of 100
PS3 - 55 out of 100

Also I'm beginning to sound like a conspiracy nut now but note the closeness of the review scores, usually you would expect a bit of a berth between console and pc reception since pc reviewers tend to be more demanding.

I really think its a concentrated effort to cause a public distaste for the game.

You are paying attention to metacritic scores and no the actual content of the review, that your problem.

Oh I'm on about purely the scores, I haven't actually read any reviews.

Whereas Black Ops II got an average of 78%, with only one 'professional' review being anything but positive. Mind you I use the term 'professional' loosely.

Yeah pretty much the only thing propping up black ops 2 is the fact its a call of duty game.

You can see from the slightly lukewarm reviews they're probably too scared to face fanboy rage.

Don't think so mate, check out the user reviews, the ones Treyarch cannot pay to lie and give fake reviews.

Positive: 115 out of 403
Mixed: 21 out of 403
Negative: 267 out of 403

115 idiots, which isn't bad, only around 25%.

I think the whole point of marks out of ten and percent marks have been well and truly lost when it comes to games/movies. 5/10 or 50 odd % is right in the middle. Not terrible, not great. Average score is average.

I'm amazed people even use metacritic to get reviews of games, its full of bs, also Black Ops 2 and every other cod game gets so many negatives cause 4chan likes to troll it.

Judging by TotalBiscuits review of the game it doesn't even deserve 50 looking at the singleplayer

I believed cod got good reviews this time because if its choice driven sp which actually works. I believe gianbomb said it was the best choice driven game of the year.

Compare that to war fighter which is just a very generic piece of work

Very few of these "professional" reviews feature anything to do with multiplayer. They are usually always based purely from the singleplayer. Which these types of games are rarely about.

If it wasn't this game then it would probably be the next like it. This is the same thing that happened a few years ago with all the WW2 clones. Its time for the next cash cow to come to the fore.

Very true, As one reviewer said. Spec Op's: The line should have been the end of these type of games, as it really took the **** out of BF3 and MW3/BLOPS and made them look foolish. That was only talking about the story lines (not the gameplay). So Warfighter (pahahaha) is a bit late to the party.

I totally agree with that, atleast MW3 and BF3 tempted me, Warfighter just looks too linear.

Thats what I mean, you are looking at the scores, they are complete bull. Find a reviewer that has the same opinion of games as you and just listen/read to their reviews. Its difficult to put a value to how much you enjoy a game, what's the difference between a 79/100 and 80/100 in terms of how good a game is.

Metacritc cannot be trusted, look at the the score for natural selection 2 by gamespot, they have changed the review because the original one was wrong but metacritc does not take the new value of the score so the value it has is lower than what it should be.

No, Warfighter is significantly worse than cod 58 or whatever it is. Black ops 2 tries(but ultimately fails) to do a few different things, the "tactical" levels which are basically multiplayer maps with bots, and the tactics don't really work, the team AI is pathetic so you basically just take control and play a map with painfully respawning enemy. It doesn't quite work, but the actual maps, because they are basically multiplayer, are a little less linear, they are small but open, and you get the chance to play as soldier or little chopper/turret/weird tank thing. Again the gameplay of those vehicles aren't very good, it doesn't work but it IS different to playing the same guy in every level.

Warfighter, is just balls, flat out balls, with so many mistakes, so many broken bits in levels(while the guy doing those video's is terrible, it is accurate).

Black ops 2 has many awful bits, not least the opening 1-2 levels are pretty woeful, but it does improve, the story isn't good, the airplane bit is almost embarrassingly poorly done, the driving bits are tiny and not very good, the horse bits are hilariously badly done. But again it comes back to, at least they tried to vary the levels a little bit, its better than making a carbon copy game that is done badly, which is what Warfighter is.

The weapons feel better to shoot and you have more options with them in Black ops over warfighter, the AI is probably better, not much but still better.


Either way, things are graded on a not standard scale, a crap game doesn't get 1/100, a really horrendous game will still get 30/100, a pretty awful game will get 50/100, a semi decent game will get 70/100, it has to be truly excellent to get 95+ and most people didn't seem to rate Black ops as that, 70-80/100 is "decent but not great". Warfighter deserved a lot less, its just woeful.
