I'm rubbish at buying presents, and always go for alcohol/CD's/DVD's. etc, but as it's my dad's 65th on the 3rd of July, I'd like to get him something a little more 'special'.

Not looking to spend any more than £50 if possible, but can share the cost with my little 'bro if needs be for something more expensive.

He doesn't like football or any sport at all really, apart from the very odd round of golf, but he loves live music, generally goes to at least a gig a month, including Metallica and The Foo Fighters with me, and he's always listening to music of some kind, so something music based seems like the best idea!

Any ideas much appreciated

This was a good few years ago for my dads 60th but I got him a newspaper from the day he was born and a bottle of whiskey, he absolutely loved it. If he was a music fan I'd have got him a signed vinyl of a band he liked as a kid or perhaps still does, I know he liked the Shadows so that'd be the one I went on a vinyl hunt for! Other gifts we've gotten him over the year are a test drive in the car he always wanted (Jaguar e type) and a round of golf at Royal Troon where he'd always meant to play a round but never got around to it.

If you want something different that shows a bit of thought I'm not sure an ipod etc does. I'm not knocking people but you did ask for something a bit different. What about a coin from the year of his birth? won't cost much and at least it's different and shows a bit of effort in getting it. You have plenty of time though, so make the most of it.

He's your dad - value of the gift probably won't be anywhere near as important as the thought you put into it, which works in your favour :)

Thanks for the replies, having a look on Ebay now for signed albums/CD's, great idea.

He'd love to drive an Aston Martin, think I'll look into that too, although it's probably prohibitively expensive!

prostitute ...maybe 2

actually since he is your dad....get him 3

now i know there will be 3 of them and 1 of him but STOP....stop right there.
it aint cool dude so stop thinking about it.

iPod dock/speakers? I know in my local Tesco we have JBL On-stage-200iD speakers for half price at about £65... Really nice quality speakers if you can stretch to it with your bro, and of course if he has an iPod to use it with :P

Thanks again for the replies, even the stripper and prossie ones, lol!

An Ipod's a no go I'm afraid, he struggles to operate the Sky remote! They've got one of those Bose all in one things, so that should cater for his listening needs.

I am also going to go with 2-3 prostitutes. Probably Easter European ones that can take a good beating and don't mark too easy. Quite petite ones too cos if anything goes wrong and you have to chainsaw up the carcass, smaller is better trust me. Also digging in Epping Forest at 3am is hard work, a smaller hole is also far easier
