Recently my job has been grating a little. My clientèle are fantastic and the pay is good, but god it's boring work, staring at databases for hours on end waiting for (now completely automated) scripts to finish (I automated them out of something to do in the boredom lol).

I've taken quite a lot of days off as of late, and aside from enjoying some R&R, have done some odd jobs (paid) for various people just as something to do, fixed a few laptops, did all the solvent weld pipework for a guys pond, did an urgent delivery job for someone who needed something picking up and dropping off the same day.

I have to say, the random "different jobs" makes a nice change and I'm thinking about weaving more of them into my schedule to break up the monotony.

I don't suppose anyone had any suggestions or other things to do, or maybe learn etc for a regular, easy to find, style of work to break things up.

I was considering sticking some fliers through doors in my local area as a "random IT guy for hire, big, small, whatever the issue. From "my computer/printer is broken" to "do you have any insight on breaking a 256bit heavily seeded credit card dump file" and anything in between". (or similar)

Also a DBA sat watching databases :D

Yea I may go down this route, stick a couple of local ads in the paper as well.
