At the moment I have a Leon FR 150 TDi on a 55 plate, the old shape. Its on finance (personal loan) but because of the usual stuff i want to try and reduce the finance so obviously the best bet it to change cars.Had it for 2 years now and havent had any problems atall, I am pretty much level on finance versus whats its worth so I could in theory get something a bit cheaper and have a bit less going out per month.

I do about 13k a year and so im not so sure if I would go to petrol as i do like the diesel drive etc, defo need 5 doors and a reasonable boot for golf gear etc. Would have to be over 150bhp and would prefer near or over 200bhp now (29 with 5 years NCB) so insurance is reasonable. I dont want anthinng ancient that could potentially be a money pit but i would acertain budget around 5-6k otherwise the reduction in monthly payment wouldnt be worth the hassle.

Any thoughts?

Not sure 5-6k is enough to get you something better than the Leon? I'd be thinking BMW x30d but that'll cost more

I kind of agree and this is my sticking point, im thinking the change may save a bit a month but the benefits wont be enough. Its still under warranty so it would be when it comes out of warranty that I change.

I can't think of a single uptogether diesel car for £5k with more than 200bhp. Infact the only ones even near 200bhp are going to be 98/99 530d's with 184bhp and these will be doggy at this money.

Ok fair play. Lets say that if I couldnt find anything that would lower the payments and be worthwhile. If I still wanted a change, but to keep the same payments etc I would be looking at 10k i think. What is available for that price range? A 330D would be immense but i have reservations at thats price as to what I would get, might have to be trade as selling the Leon privately for me would be I can imagine a nightmare.

To be honest with 13k a year mileage I'd get a petrol car. I know you say you like the way your diesel drives but trust me I can't think of a single thing about the power delivery of a TDI PD 150 thats better than a decent 6 cylinder 200bhp+ petrol engine.

Ok, the only petrol car I have driven with a decent amount of power is a mk4 R32 golf, it was around 4 years ago so I dont really remember that much about it. Can you suggest a petrol car for the original question then?
