In the next few months i'm wanting to replace my 2002 (02) Mondeo TDCI 130 Ghia (85k miles) with something more entertaining. I'm 23 with 1 year no claims. Been looking on autotrader at Toyota Celica 190's and insurance doesn't seem too bat at £750. Also Civic Type-R's but I prefer the look of the Toyoya and I don't really need the 2 back seats anyway. I did think about a Honda Integra DC2 but there aren't many around (will have to look around longer to find a good one) and i'm not that fond of the looks (Love the DC5 but that's too expensive).

So apart from those does anyone have any other suggestions? Really looking for a 2 seater coupe 2000 or newer, reliable, cheap to run, sub £1200 insurance (so nothing more expensive than a civic type-r).

I will probably end up trading in the mondeo as I doubt I'll have time going through the process of selling it privately as i'm working long hours at the moment. What kind of price would I get for it? My budget is based on a guess at £4,000 due to the high milage (bought last summer for £5,500 with 78k miles), but has a full service history and no dents or scratches.

Thanks for the replies.

I think an elise will be a bit too extreme as i'll be making the 30 mile commute in to work each day (mainly motorway) and prefer some creature comforts. I didn't know a mini cooper s was in my budget so that's another one i'd like to look at.
