Hi all. Am thinking it's about time I replaced my car. I drive an extensively modified Fiat Cinquecento. It has a power to weight ratio of around 160bhp per tonne and is 'nippy'. I do still like my car but it is battered, covered around 130 000miles and is in need of new suspension (~£500), new rear tyres and a few other bits and bobs. I want something quicker, better built and more comfortable.

If i break the car, i can probably get around a grand for the running gear and other modified parts, refit the stock parts and sell the car as a standard car for around £400.

I work only 3 miles away, live in a city centre so hardly use the car - but i'd like something fun to have a nice drive on the NSL roads, and something that's not going to keep trying to kill me on the motorway when we're off visiting family.

I have been looking FTOs, MX5s, Clio 172s, Celica (love them, but would have to be an ST205 GT-FOUR and they're dogs in my price range), maybe MR2.

any suggestions / opinions?

Xsara VTS? :p

MX-5 is probably the best fun : cost ratio unless you're looking for outright speed and power.

How do you guage the fun factor then?

Handling?
Acceleration?
Engine characteristics?
Chassis?

Its a personal opinion i agree, but the Prelude has all of the above.

You can only gauge fun by the size of the smile you have plastered on your face after a drive!

Reeling out facts and figures mean absoultely nothing at the end of the day.

Take something like an old Land Rover. Massively underpowered, heavy, cramped cabin and generally hideous to drive, but many people will insist that it is by far the most fun they've had behind the wheel.

Absolutely :)
But your saying because the Prelude has performance figures it is ruled out of the "fun" category?

Nope, I've got nothing at all against the prelude but I was just stating that there is more to "fun" than 0-60 times and LSDs :).
