going to be hard to explain, but I hope you nice people can help me track it down

I am using windows 7 64bit

All started when I was installing windows updates (I was unaware the rollback was turned off)

and upon installing one update, the computer started going extremely slow and not reading the CD drive very well

decided to format the computer and reinstall windows 7 again

and again installing updates, and I start getting problems again, starts slowing down, cant read CDs properly, cant install programs that I try and download (programs freeze when installing) internet explorer takes 5 minutes to open etc etc

any ideas?

Sounds like something is maxing out your cpu, bad process, stuck process, what does event manager say?

Do you mean Event Viewer ? I couldn't find Event Manager

if so, never used it before, so what do I look for ? (i'll get a screen shot of it)

Thanks

Memtest as well, just in case

good idea, ill try that, thanks

somebody said checking SMART on my hard drive

i've just ran HD Tune Pro and under the "Health" tab i get 1 error message..

C7 Interface CRC count "attention"

"There were communication errors. This may be caused by a damaged cable"

i could try and change the sata cable and try again ?

I have moved the ssd drive to another port, changed the boot order to boot into windows

same error

could this be a faulty motherboard or ssd ?

A long shot but you could check Computer management to see which mode your drives are set to. I recall years ago I had an error that set mine to to PIO mode instead of the correct transfer mode and I had similar issues with rearguards to sluggishness.

Thanks, I will try that

im just installing windows onto another hard drive and I'll boot into that and I will try hd tune on this hard drive and see if there's any difference

I THINK I MAY HAVE CRACKED IT

in the bios AHCI was enabled, apart from one part in the bios, so I enabled it, and hd tune is now saying no errors ?!?!???

going to now re boot the ssd and make sure that is the same and works ok

if all ok, why has this happened ? I've not been in the bios to change anything

well I cant fix it

HD Tune is saying communications error for 2 hard drives out of 4, 1 hard drive is ssd, that says there are 5 communication errors (c7) the other hard drive (non-ssd) is saying only 1 error under C7

Decided to run down to the PC shp, got another Samsung evo 850 this time

blimey its faster than the old one, no errors what so ever now

so I think its the drive, what do you guys think ?

Samsung wont RMA my drive

sent all the information off, and the speeds aren't low enough to issue an rma
and have said

Please try to secure erase the SSD and reinstall the OS. You can also install the Intel Rapid Storage Technologies drivers and see if the performances get better
